P-A-N-D-E-M-O-N-I-U-M. Pandemonium. When mixing pubescent children with high-stakes competition, one shouldn’t expect anything less.
UW’s Musical Theater Program is putting on “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” directed by Brandon Ivie, and the wordy title explains it all. The show follows six middle schoolers competing in their county spelling bee for a spot in a national bee. Moderated by the winner of the third annual bee, Rona Lisa Peretti (Abrah Friberg), and vice principal Donna Panch (Candice Lundy), we learn about the contestants’ backstories and idiosyncratic quirks through song and dance.
The lively and dedicated cast deserved all the audience’s laughter and applause on opening night, embracing and embodying their respective characters with zeal and youthful spirits
